President elect holds lunch with freed political prisoners

Gambia’s new president has invited April 14 and 16 opposition UDP supporters who were jailed for holding an unauthorised protest to lunch yesterday.

Gambia’s president-elect Adama Barrow has yesterday invited the April 14 and 16 demonstrators who were freed on bail by country’s appeal court weeks ago to lunch at his residence at Taf estate in Brufut.

The politicians at the table with the president elect include opposition United Democratic Party leader Lawyer Darboe, Lamin Dibba and a host of party executive members who were sentenced in July to 3 years for holding an unauthorized protest in April.

The guests were entertained with a live band performance.
