IEC announces candidates’ nomination days

The Independent Electoral Commission has yesterday issued a press release reminding people that nomination of presidential candidates will start at 10am on November 7.

“General public is hereby being informed of the nomination schedule of the aspiring candidates for the Presidential election of December 2016,” the electoral authorities said in a press release.

According to the press release, the first party that will be nominated is GDC’s Mamma Kandeh on November 7, the independent candidate Dr Isatou Touray on November 8, independent candidate leading the coalition Adama Barrow on November 9, and finally the incumbent President Yahya Jammeh of APRC on November 10.

“All political parties and aspiring candidates and their supporters are entreated to respect this schedule as the IEC shall strictly follow it,” the press release added.

Gambians are heading to polls on December 1 to elect their president and campaigns which will take a 13-day period will start on November 16.
