Gambian man who arrived in Malta from Sicily arrested after customs officials discover cannabis resin in his possession.
A Gambian man who arrived in Malta from Sicily via catamaran was arrested by police after he was found in possession of what he claimed was bars of soap, and which later turned out to be cannabis resin, Malta Today reported.
In a statement, the Customs Department, said the drug was found on Saturday as passengers were being screened on disembarking from the catamaran.
Upon being questioned by the Customs officers, the man in question claimed that he was carrying washing soap, but a narcotics test showed that it was cannabis resin.
The Customs Officials informed the Police Drug Squad of the find and the passenger was arrested.
Investigations are ongoing.
