According a news release from her music promoter based in The Gambia, The Gambia’s female kora sensation, Sona Jobarteh, will perform on BBC radio 4 tomorrow.
The news release informed that following her recent feature on BBC Radio 3, Sona Jobarteh has been invited on BBC Radio 4 for an interview and performance on Woman’s Hour, on Friday September 4th at 10am.
The release said she will perform live at the BBC studios joined by two of her band members Kyazi Lugangira (guitar) and Mamadou Sarr (percussion).
Sona has recently gone to Malaysia where she performed alongside Ndima which represents the people of the Aka Pygmies from Congo Brazzaville, at the Rainforest World Music Festival.
The Rainforest World Music Festival, often abbreviated as RWMF, is an annual three-day music festival celebrating the diversity of world music, held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts.
Sona is the first Gambian female to have gotten an international recognition as a kora player challenging the male dominance which has previously been the norm in the industry.
